Colorado artist Jeremy Cooper transformed 425 pounds of scrap steel into the elegant form that is Morning Dove. Inspired by graceful morning doves “dancing their way across the eastern plains on their annual migration”, Cooper first created the shape and then chose a bright yellow color for the piece, emoting joy and warmth.
A self-taught artist, Jeremy Cooper says of his work, “My challenge as an artist is to give scrap metal new life. I seek to expose its potential by bringing out beauty related to the elements and forces of nature. Taking non-organic materials like steel and copper and transforming them into organic reflections of our environment.”
Morning Dove was purchased by Community Ventures in 2010 and donated to the City of Colorado Springs.
