“Love Is the Answer” was created by Sandy Friedman.
Six heart cutouts encompass six munition rounds in this work from Sandy Friedman, a commentary on the November 2015 shooting at Planned Parenthood Colorado Springs.
The blue base pays tribute to the first responders to the emergency, with three rings representing police, fire, and medical.
While specific and thematic in content, the sculpture achieves its power through its use of the same visual vocabulary as the rest of Friedman’s work: totemic in form with design elements influenced by the natural and urban environments of Colorado.
Pay special attention to the interaction of the negative spaces created by the sculpture’s shapes as the shadows cast by the sun change throughout the day – each one representing a moment in time.
