Colorado Springs, 80903
The torii gate, shrine, and crisscrossed bridge were a gift to Colorado Springs from the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs.
A torii is a traditional Japanese gate that marks the entrance to a sacred space. The structures were presented to the city in 1966 to commemorate the “sister city” relationship between Colorado Springs and Fujiyoshida, Japan. The two cities formally entered into this relationship in 1962 in order to promote understanding between the two cultures.
