Springs Ensemble Theatre kicks off its ninth season with the dark comedy The Totalitarians by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb.
Election season. Nebraska. Francine, a silver-tongued campaign manager, is recruited by Penny, a candidate for lieutenant governor who talks a lot, says little, and means even less. As Francine helps Penny rise in the polls, Francine’s marriage suffers. Her husband Jeffrey, a doctor, finds himself lying to a dying patient, Ben, who opens Jeffrey’s eyes to Penny’s nefarious plans for the Cornhusker State, convincing Jeffrey that Penny must be stopped. The Totalitarians is a raucous dark comedy about the state of modern political discourse, modern relationships, and how easy it is to believe truths without facts.
The Totalitarians is directed by SET President Matt Radcliffe. Sarah Sheppard Shaver plays Francine, the ambitious campaign manager who catapults candidate Penny Easter, played by Holly Haverkorn, to the top of the polls. Taylor Geiman portrays Francine’s luckless husband, who finds himself as one-half of a two-man coup with a rebellious young man named Ben, played by Danté Finley.
