The Machine Shop presents “FRAY,” an art exhibition by Valerie Lloyd. “FRAY” will include oil and acrylic paintings as well as a sculptural installation. These works are literal depictions of ordinary objects and abstracted expressions of the process of unraveling.
“FRAY” seeks to portray the beauty of the undone. Either by natural consequence of time, intentional harm, or the shock of the unexpected, things do fall apart.
It is in this undoing that a new undiscovered and often unexpected glory is found.
Valerie Lloyd paints with both acrylic and oil on canvas and wood panel. She enjoys depicting still lifes into modern and simplified images, creating abstract paintings, and occasional works in an illustrative style.
All three styles are often inspired by personal spiritual and metaphorical exploration. Valerie has remained a creative throughout her life, whether it be in her own work at home, as an art teacher to students of all ages, or commissioned design projects.
She currently works as the curator for The Machine Shop creative workspace and gallery. She has a Bachelors of Arts and Education from Colorado State University, and more currently refreshed her oil painting skills in class with local teacher Brett Andrus.
She is inspired by many of the artists she has been privileged to work with in Colorado Springs while at the Machine Shop. She strives to always inspire those around her in their creative endeavors and truly believes in the power of art to transform the culture of a city.
