“Ghost in the Machine” is an offering of modern works inspired by the timeless art of Georgia O’Keeffe. This show presents work by selected Instructors from Bemis School of Art at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center in conjunction with the Fine Arts Center’s exhibition “Eloquent Objects: Georgia O’Keeffe and Still-Life Art in New Mexico”.
It’s the gentle washes of color that first catch our attention. The seamless transition from one tone to the next. The soft and delicate hues of New Mexico in the simmering heat of summer. Jewel tones that reflect the desert sky at sunrise and sunset. Flowing lines from a patient and steady hand. The graduating play of light and shadow—sometimes subtle, sometimes bold. The quiet and contemplative subjects she chooses. Her reverence for the land she called home. We are drawn in.
Having seen her work we cannot help but find bits of her influence in our own art. She is an icon, an influence, a student, and a teacher. She is Georgia O’Keeffe, although you would know her art simply by her first name. Her art has taught us, motivated us, informed our work, changed the way we see the world, the way we express ourselves through art. Georgia is our “ghost”, and we are her “machine”.
Artists for this show include Alyson Blanton, Laura Brown, Kristin Byrd, Lance Green, Jamie Howard, Kathy Hutton, Kim Nguyen, Linda Sagastume, Sherry Clough Suiter, Melissa Wagner, Daria Wilber
