Frank and Emma’s dairy farm is disrupted when they offer cover to Haynes, a long-time friend of Frank’s who is on the lam from a mysterious government project involving plutonium.
Life is uneventful on Frank and Emma’s Wisconsin dairy farm – until the arrival of a former government colleague of Frank’s: Haynes is jumpy and cryptic and doesn’t want anyone to know he’s a “guest” in their basement.
The unctuous government bureaucrat appears at their farmhouse, questioning their patriotism and knowing far more about them than they would like.
By the time the dark-suited and ominously amiable Welch shows up, peddling patriotic paraphernalia and asking too many questions about the basement, the couple’s bucolic tranquility begins to unravel beyond repair.
