Triple Play Jazz Quartet

Presented by Classically Alive at Classically Alive

In November 2014, Maureen Otto invited Pikes Peak Jazz and Swing Society members Tom Fowler, Trip Ziegler and Pat Abbott to represent PPJASS by providing music for a function in Manitou Springs.

For Tom, Trip and Pat, it was instantaneous “off the charts” jazz chemistry and, most importantly, genuine friendships were forged. They knew they had to play together again and often. Following that initial performance, Tom suggested the group call itself “Triple Play.” As the trio began to gain local popularity, Dave Hardin brought his drums on board to form today’s Triple Play Jazz Quartet.

The quartet performs a wide range of jazz styles, from traditional to BeBop, swing to bossa’s, ballads to standards and more. Whether you prefer to hit the dance floor or just listen and tap your feet, Triple Play Jazz Quartet will provide an enjoyable evening of quality jazz.

Tom Fowler, saxophone: For thirty years, professor Tom Fowler was the director of Jazz Studies at Wichita State University. He is a jazz saxophone virtuoso and has performed with artists Mel Torme, Doc Severinsen, Clark Terry, Vince DiMartino, Michel Le Grand, Manhattan Transfer, Joe Williams, and the Four Freshman.

Trip Ziegler, piano: Trip first received musical acclaim as a concert and recording artist with the Lowrey Organ Company, thrilling audiences worldwide with his tours of Argentina, Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Colombia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and United States. In the 1980’s, he performed as the home game organist for Major League Baseball’s Seattle Mariners. Today, his instrument of choice is the piano.
