Australian and world-renowned percussionist Vanessa Tomlinson.
This concert will look at the percussive sound world of Vanessa Tomlinson that has emerged over the past 25 years, with body, sound and listening as central themes. The concert begins with Graeme Leaks work And now for the News, based on the rhythmic qualities of Vietnamese newsreaders from the 1980s, accompanied by improvised percussion intersecting with the voices. My Favourite Things is exactly that – a semi-improvised set of works that explore discreet sound worlds; found objects, bowed cymbal, bubble wrap, ropes and triangles. The concert will end with a work by Australian composer Kate Neal: Self Accusation. Based on a play by Peter Handke of the same name, this mini-drama combines voice, exuberant drumming, found objects, and the journey of life.
