Who is Barr Trail and Barr Camp named for and why? What else did that person do in our area? Find out the answers to these and other questions in the latest exhibit at the Manitou Springs Heritage Center.
Local historian and avid hiker Eric Swab has done extensive genealogical and historic research on Fred Barr and provides a glimpse of the person behind the iconic trail that bears his name. In addition, Barr also operated a number of tourist sightseeing endeavors (like the burro rides at the top of the Manitou Incline) and was one of the original “Frozen Five” members of the AdAmAn Club. The exhibit features information and images of some of Barr’s businesses, vintage Barr Camp and AdAmAn photos and artifacts, and pictures of the man himself. The Heritage Center is very grateful to the Pearson Family, who are related to Barr and have loaned several never-before seen images to this exhibit.
