Soli Deo Gloria Community Choir will be collaborating with Celebration Multicultural Ensemble to provide an evening of “Celebrating American Culture”, Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 7 pm at First United Methodist Church, 420 North Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs. The program includes Randall Thompson’s ALLELUIA, settings of poetry by Robert Frost in FROSTIANA and others. Roland Carter, internationally known composer and arranger, will be our special guest directing his wonderful arrangement of the song, LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING. In addition to presenting individual songs, the two choirs will join together to sing patriotic and spiritual selections.
Celebration Multicultural Ensemble was founded by Peggy Shivers as an extension of the Shivers Fund at Pikes Peak Library District. Their goal is to preserve the rich history and heritage of the Negro Spiritual through education and performance and to create a musical experience that includes representations from the diverse cultures in the Colorado Springs Community.
Soli Deo Gloria Commmunity Choir has been providing a variety of sacred choral music to the Pikes Peak area for 43 years. It is the only community choir in the area that is non-auditioned and provides free concerts. Soli Deo Gloria, which means To God Alone Be The Glory, was formed by a group of singers from small church choirs who did not have the opportunity to sing classical religious music. Please see our website solideogloriacs.org for more information. Open registration occurs in September and January of each year.
Free Admission, Bring a non-perishable food donation for Springs Rescue Mission. A free will offering will be taken during intermission.
