Trio – a group or set of three, in this case, a musical composition for three instruments. Trios of different instrument combinations and musical periods give these pieces unique tone colors and a look at the way composers richly used the form and style from each musical era.
There is different instrumentation for each trio on this program. Music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th century periods are presented, all of which use the piano as the common instrumental voice and, so, are called piano trios. The remaining voices are woodwinds: Phyllis White, flute, Joyce Hanagan, oboe, Jay Norman, clarinet, and strings, Elisa Wickes, violin, Anita Maresh, viola, and Veselka Kuzma and Pam Chaddon, cello.
The piano, played by Carol Wilson, is the foundation for each of these compositions and the program includes trios (that are less often performed) by Loeillet, Kuhlau, Clara Schumann, Bruch and Gaubert.
Tickets, available at the door. Adults, $10.00; Students, FREE!
