A Taylor Memorial Concert Series event with the Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble!
CVAE’s 26th season opens with an exploration of musical and textual resonance across many centuries.
Missa Pange Lingua by Josquin des Prez, the great master of the Franco- Flemish Renaissance, is merged with Missa Rigensis, a contemporary setting of the mass by Latvian composer Uģis Prauliņš.
William Byrd’s famous Ave verum corpus flows seamlessly into Roderick Williams’ imaginative contemporary setting of the same text. Seeking resonance of another kind, the program will reflect on the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
Canadian composer Stephen Chatman’s In Flanders Fields is a simple and poignant setting for men’s chorus. Requiem, by John Duggan, references the Mass for the Dead in the context of poetry by Ivor Gurney.
Other works include Palestrina’s De profundis and Elgar’s Lux Aeterna.
Admission is free, donations accepted.
