Merikai Dance presented by Pikes Peak Arts Council at Memorial Park, Manitou Springs, Manitou Springs CO

Merikai Dance

Presented by Pikes Peak Arts Council and Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region at Memorial Park, Manitou Springs

A dance piece featuring a multi-platform installation webbed with long strips of fabric that five dancers traverse for an hour while tied together. They only interact when their connections force them out of their routine, and they must interact with the other dancers in order to return to their solo. The content of the piece touches on the nature of community; showing people struggling for power as well as working together, or alone in the same landscape. The piece will be choreographed as five solos happening simultaneously. This event will take place as part of the Festival De Los Muertos on the day of the Emma Crawford Coffin Races.

ArtPOP is a cooperative program of the Pikes Peak Arts Council and the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region. The program features 20 curated “pop-up” art events for Arts Month that will take place throughout our community during the month of October.
