4 Time winner of the Colorado Springs’ Independent “Best Jazz Artist” award (Exum) and Earth Wind and Fire label-mate (Atherton) team up for a night of live smooth contemporary jazz-funk, smoking hot sax playing with a seasoned backing band from Denver.
Tony Exum Jr, Colorado Springs’ own national recording artist, and Kalimba Records artist Paula Atherton are two highly praised saxophonists in the sax dominated genre’ of smooth/contemporary jazz. The two met in Atlanta in 2015 while on tour performing at the Atlanta Smooth Music Festival in Mableton with the likes of Nick Colionne and the Jeff Lorber Fusion. Upon their initial meeting in Atlanta the two discussed joining forces after an all star jam session with four-time #1 Billboard guitarist Nick Colionne.
Paula Atherton just enjoyed a #1 Billboard Smooth Jazz Airplay single in 2017 with trumpeter Cindy Bradley called “Girl Talk” and, with four albums under her belt, tours extensively. Atherton hails from New York City and is looking forward to experiencing the Springs’ audience for the first time.
Tony Exum Jr tours the nation frequently while remaining based in the Springs and is back home after a run of sold out shows in Atlanta, Bethesda, and San Diego. Exum hit #38 on the Euro Indie Charts with his latest single “Dance Close” featuring Philadelphia guitarist/producer David P. Stevens.
Joining Exum and Atherton on stage are world class musicians: Jeroan Adams, Gerald Sebastian, Lem Williams, and JT Reign. This promises to be a night of pure SAXuality you do not want to miss.
