Taylor Memorial Concert Series

The next Taylor Memorial Concert is Sunday, April 19 at 3 pm at Grace and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, downtown North Tejon and Monument Streets.  Guest organist Ralph Valentine (St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Denver) will play a 30-minute organ recital followed by Choral Evensong sung by the Taylor Choir, under the direction of Deke Polifka.  The organ recital includes music of Rheinberger, Howells, Sowerby and Bridge.  Evensong includes the beautiful Collegium Regale evening canticles by Herbert Howells, Balfour Gardiner's dramatic Evening Hymn, and service music of Philip Radcliffe.  

Evensong is a form of Evening Prayer that draws from the medieval Latin offices of Vespers and Compline.  This tradition is unique to the Church of England and to other churches of the Anglican Communion and has remained unchanged for centuries.  As is customary at Choral Evensong, most of the service is sung by the Choir alone to special settings.
