Drawing inspiration from the dual themes of sorrow and solace, this program highlights music’s unique power to console. American composer Eric Whitacre’s When David Heard is the centerpiece of the program. This searing exploration of the human capacity to grieve is countered by the graceful and tender lyricism of works by William Byrd, Edward Elgar, and others.
Josquin: De profundis clamavi
Byrd: Non vos relinquam orphanos
Whitacre: When David Heard
Elgar (arr. Cameron) : Lux Aeterna
