A fundraiser in celebration of Ormao’s 25th Anniversary Season, Ormao alumni Aléna Watters returns from NYC Broadway for an evening of music and a little dance. Join us in the lovely intimate setting of the Mezzanine for an hour of delightful songs you know from broadway, jazz and pop standards.
Aléna Watters’s Broadway credits include the original companies of Sister Act (Tina/Nun), and The Addams Family (Saloon Girl Ancestor), along with her (offstage) Broadway debut in the recent revival of West Side Story (Anita standby).
Other credits include the Off-Broadway comedy revues Boobs! The Musical: The World According To Ruth Wallis, and the original company of Drama Desk-nominated NEWSical! The Musical. Regional credits include Rick Elice & Marshall Brickman’s Turn of the Century directed by the incomparable Tommy Tune, the world premiere of Ever After directed by Kathleen Marshall, the pre-Broadway company of Brooklyn, West Side Story, Shout! The Mod Musical, and numerous productions of Beehive! The 60s Musical.
Aléna rocked it out alongside Bette Midler as one of “The Harlettes”, the Divine Miss M’s backup singer/dancers, for a NY concert at the Metropolitan Opera House, and also did work on her Las Vegas spectacular, The Showgirl Must Go On. Aléna is featured in the critically acclaimed documentary, The Standbys (www.TheStandbys.com), a look at the unique and challenging lives of Broadway understudies, which can now be purchased on dvd or streamed online.
You also may catch her performing live across the nation, abroad, and sometimes on television, with the USO Show Troupe, spreading joy to the military and their families. Aléna has a BA in Musical Theatre/Acting from the University of Northern Colorado, and was the youngest person to receive UNCo’s Alumni Association Creative Achievement Award in 2009. She is a 200hr certified Vinyasa/Hatha RYT, and has 18 years choreography/dance teaching experience (yeah, she started early!), sprinkled in when she’s not on stage performing. www.alenawatters.com
