In this lecture, Myrriah Gómez will discuss the concept of querencia—love of place— and demonstrate how querencia can be used to understand the complex relationship between Nuevomexicanas/os and Los Alamos.

Hispana/o homesteaders lived, farmed, and ranched atop the Pajarito Plateau until 1942, when they were displaced to make room for Site Y of the Manhattan Project. Gómez will share testimonios of homesteaders, laborers, and local residents to shed light on Nuevomexicana/o experiences
