This is a lunch lecture. Drawing from “Chicana por mi Raza,” a voluminous digital archive that she has been building since 2009, María Cotera tells the unlikely story of Maria Varela, a Chicana from Chicago who went South to work as an educator and photographer for the Student Nonviolence Coordinating Committee, and later traveled West to Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico, where she worked with Reies Lopez Tijerina and the land rights movement.
