Human Trafficking. Is it real? Does it really happen here, in OUR schools, in OUR community? How does it happen? Where is it taking place? WHO is at risk?
Human Trafficking is real and it’s happening both in Colorado Springs and in our schools. Some children as young as 11 years old are forced into domestic minor sex trafficking. Traffickers target vulnerable populations like youth who abuse alcohol and drugs, who run away, who are from immigrant families, and who have been physically or sexually abused. I’m sure as you read this list, youth in your life come to mind.
We have invited speakers to answer the questions above in a way that is tailored to families and members of our community who interact with youth in Southern Colorado, like yourselves. Teachers, coaches, school nurses, counselors, maintenance personnel, and parents will also be equipped with an understanding of the warning signs, questions to ask if something looks suspicious, and steps to take in reporting trafficking to the local authorities.
Knowledge is power. The more we know about traffickers, their tactics, and how our middle and high school aged youth are being targeted, the better we can do our job in protecting them, and preventing them from being trafficked before our eyes.
Would you come learn as much as you can and partner with us in protecting Southern Colorado’s youth?
Youth in our community should not be trafficked – Not on YOUR Watch and not on ours. Together we can protect our youth and our community from traffickers.
