The Manitou Incline had its beginning in 1907 as a cable tram, providing a means to support the construction of a water pipeline from Englemann Canyon to the Manitou Hydroelectric Plant.

The Manitou Incline had its beginning in 1907 as a cable tram, providing a means to support the construction of a water pipeline from Englemann Canyon to the Manitou Hydroelectric Plant. Subsequently it became a popular tourist attraction sporting spectacular views over a 16 minute ride.  Scores of passengers were transported in cars on a 3 ft narrow gauge funicular railway for many decades until its closure in 1990.
