Newmont Mining Corporation (Newmont) is a leading gold and copper producer. Founded in 1921, the Company has operations in five countries around the world. The Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mine (CC&V) is located in Teller County Colorado between the cities of Victor and Cripple Creek. The area of Victor and Cripple Creek is rich in mining history, with many historic mining structures still intact. The current CC&V mine has been in operation for nearly 30 years. Newmont acquired the site in 2015 and with the acquisition, Newmont brought a world-class reclamation strategy to ensure long-term historical and environmental sustainability goals are achieved.
Newmont, having been in the industry for almost a century, has extensive knowledge and experience when it comes to the various stages of a mine’s life cycle. Newmont recognizes that proper mine closure can significantly minimize risks and liabilities, reduce the need to manage the property in perpetuity, and successfully transition the land from a mine site to a stable land resource that will provide sustainable community benefits for generations to come. To achieve these closure goals, Newmont has developed a strategic reclamation approach that focuses on local community engagement, stakeholder input, and unique historical and environmental considerations. Newmont is committed to providing long-term environmental stability and beneficial post-mining land uses. In recognition of this commitment Newmont was the winner of the Interstate Mining Compact Commission’s (IMCC) 2014 Reclamation Award in the Noncoal Category for their work at the Twin Creeks mine in Nevada.
