Learn the basics of knitting in this two-hour introductory class. The class will discuss yarn/needle selection, swatch/gauge creation, when to use a pattern, and when to wing it.
By the end of the two hours together, you will have the skills to knit a simple scarf using the three main steps you’ll use in all future knitting projects: cast on, knit, and bind off. For those who pick up the material quickly (and those with some prior knitting experience), you will move on to more advanced techniques, time permitting, such as: increasing/decreasing stitches, purling, combining knit and purl stitches to create ribbing and other textures, and even cabling. Discover how simple this complex craft can be!
For students wanting to take their work home with them at the end of class, please bring:
- Knitting needles (either straight or circular) in a size student is comfortable holding
- Yarn that is a proper gauge for the needles
For those who don’t have needles and yarn already, tools and materials will be provided for use during class.
