James John Hagerman is Colorado’s neglected railroad tycoon. However, Hagerman’s career was not confined to Colorado. He made his first fortune in Michigan developing the iron deposits in the Upper Peninsula, and later as an ironmaster in Milwaukee. This is his life story prior to coming to Colorado Springs and building the Colorado Midland Railway.
