October is Arts Month in the Pikes Peak Region and in coordination with the many events, Academy Art & Frame Company (AAFC) is hosting our 4th fundraising art exhibition. This year’s fundraiser benefits local non-profit Imagination Celebration, whose mission is to “connect people of all ages to the brain-stimulating, life-enriching power of creativity.” AAFC and contributing artists will each donate 10% of their profits to Imagination Celebration. The theme of the exhibit is “Imagination! All That’s October!” and you are invited to join the artists for this reception on October 21, 2016 from 4-8pm. Refreshments will be available.
In 2013, artist Lindsay Nadeau-Laxton came to Kim Costello asking to have a fundraising art show in October that year in honor of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), a disorder that affects the nervous system and of which Laxton has suffered for many years. In that moment, it was decided that October would be a fundraising month at AAFC and that each exhibit would contribute to a local not for profit organization. In 2014, a solo exhibit from Michael de Palma benefited TESSA, an organization working with those affected by domestic and sexual violence; and in 2015, a solo exhibit from Bill Young benefited Mental Health America of the Pikes Peak Region with an emphasis on Suicide Prevention and Awareness.
“This year, we wanted to do something a little more light-hearted and encouraging, “says AAFC curator Cas Foste. “I love seeing the Dio de los Muertos art exhibits around town every fall and we wanted to do a fundraiser that could incorporate this fun idea and others. But with such a fun exhibit we needed an organization with the same atmosphere of fun surrounding it. So, we contacted Deborah Thorton at Imagination Celebration!”
