Niyha “Duchess of Wordplay” Owens has taken the Denver spoken word scene by storm. Her witty rhymes and extensive vocabulary have earned her the title “Duchess of Wordplay” from her peers and audiences. She is often praised for the honesty, relatibility and humorous characteristics of her work.
“Timniyha S. Owens is the essence of grace. I have always appreciated her live spoken word performances and I have recently come to also appreciate her as the ultimate professional artist. ” – Michelle Fox, (michellefox.com)
“Niyha Owens opened Friday night’s events …with a moving presentation of her poignant, powerful words, which speak truthfully to the experience of being a writer, a woman of color, and being LGBT in a world that often supresses those identities” – Sunnivie Brydum, Denver LGBT Issues Examiner
“Smooth, not many people can be described by this word, and really it doesn’t give justice to “Niyha” Owens, but she is smooth. Her verbal word play is deep, brings to light lesbian issues, from love to anger and touches you to the core. When you hear her speak, you sit there thinking, “Yeah, what Niyha said.” Her flow is powerful, yet meek and her stage presence is mindful of some great orators from a long gone expressive era. ” – Down Souf Magazine (downsoufmag.com)
