Hausmusik presents Beethoven and Chausson

HAUSMUSIK has been Colorado Springs’ own chamber music treasure for 27 years.  Performing at Grace Episcopal Church, the evening starts at 6:20 with a fully catered dinner, followed by a concert at 7:00 performed by our own string quartet comprised of members of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.  The evening is at once enriching, educational, and entertaining.

Our first performance of the new year will be:

Beethoven Quartet in B flat op 18 no 6
Beethoven was always attracted by the problems posed by strong contrasts and in the last of the Opus 18 Quartets he is trying out the possibilities of disparity of character between the movements.

Chausson Quartet in c minor, Op. 35
The String Quartet in C minor, Op. 35, was begun by Ernest Chausson in 1898 and the composer had fully scored all but part of the last movement before he died in a bicycle accident on 10 June 1899. He was engaged in writing the last movement on the very day of his fatal accident. Relying on the drafts left behind by Chausson, Vincent d’Indy completed the final movement at the request of the composer’s family.
