Discovering the Anza Legacy & The Anza-Cuerno Verde National Trail

John Anderson will present a slide presentation of the Anza Legacy and talk about the proposed Anza-Cuerno Verde Trail outside of Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs.

Historian and author, John Anderson, will tell the story of Gov. Juan Batista de Anza and Comanche War Chief Cuerno Verde (Green Horn), both who were determined to preserve their way of life.

To challenge the Comanche, Gov. de Anza led 600 Spanish soldiers who were joined by 200 Ute and Apaches at the foot of Pikes Peak. They attacked the Comanche outside of Manitou Springs on August 31, 1799.

Efforts are under way to establish the Anza-Cuerno Verde Trail which runs from Sante Fe to Pueblo, CO
