A Fertile Dialogue

A Fertile Dialogue combines the experience-based work of five contemporary artists, Chelsea Boucher, Nichole Fetterhoff, Karen Khoury, Carol Mordecai Myers, and Felicia Sheumaker, whose work reflects part of the larger conversation in today’s art world. Rooted in the perceptions and realities of womanhood, and exploring roles both customary and non-traditional, this show celebrates feminine connection to the earth, fertility, life cycles, and creation in a way not always expected or pretty. Each artist’s interpretation of the title theme, informed by their self-identification as mothers, daughters, homemakers, career women, academics, and wives lends to a varied and intriguing collection of pieces, together telling a larger relatable story. This show highlights the use of so-called craft and common materials in fine art, traditional “women’s” arts, the deconstruction of “having it all” as women in our modern society, and pushes the boundaries of what it means to be an artist in today’s world.
