Sophia Hanna

Sophia Hanna has grown up immersed in the artistic community of Colorado Springs, influenced by local artists, her parents, her awful younger brothers, and the beauty of Colorado scenery. At 18 years old, she is now passionately pursuing the artistic career she wished for as a seven year old. Sophia continues to learn through classes at local gallery SPQR, and plans to attend UCCS in Fall 2018 to pursue a Bachelors in Visual Arts with a minor in business management.

Sophia learned and integrated artistic knowledge and experience from very early in her life, working through every medium she could get her hands on. Learning from both teachers and her curiosity and sense of exploration, she has focused on practical skills, thriving in non-traditional schooling. Watercolor first captured Sophia’s attention, and she debuted some of her first pieces in the SPQR and Modbo Small Works show, in which she has participated every year since 2011. At her first oil painting class in the summer of 2017, she wholeheartedly dove in, captivated by the medium. In November 2017, she debuted two wall-sized oil portraits at the Modbo gallery, her most notable artistic achievement yet. She has sold numerous pieces, including several commissions.

Sophia’s first solo show in oil, influenced by her experiences with mental illness and identity, debuted in the summer of 2018. Developing this body of work is requiring her to stretch and grow beyond her comfort zones, relying on her own artistic judge
