Holly Parker Dearborn

Holly’s experience of living and working in Italy inspired a concern for the landscape and a passion for interpreting it in various and meaningful ways. Her research there spawned an interdisciplinary spirit that includes traditional paint, alternative paint, video, photo-based mediums and more. Among this work, is a series of dramatic, abstract landscapes based on battlefields. They make up a portion of a larger and ongoing series of work entitled "Active Ingredients" in which the active ingredients include used-motor-oil and dirt. She desires to convey a connection between the global population, technology and the use of natural resources. The results are alluring, elegant and sometimes poignant. Holly is a Colorado native who served in the Colorado Springs art community for a number of years before embarking on her MFA studies in Italy and Washington DC. Among other graphic design and advertising director positions, she spent over eight years in management for the Smokebrush Foundation for the Arts as the a Director & Curator. She also served as the 2007 and 2008 instructor and director of the award-winning Wunderkind Program (a gallery program for high school students also at the Business of Art Center). She has taught for FutureSelf, an organization providing artistic workshops for teens as an alternative means of expression.
