Angela Crews

You will find me the most giddy when I score a great old camera, bring it home, take it apart, clean it, put it back together, then shoot it! (We’re talking film cameras here.) I’m a perpetual student of my true passion, the history of photography. What inspires me? Let’s call it the everyday. The beauty I see in the sunlight in a landscape, the hidden places we call our own, things that make me smile, and the wonder that is always around us. Often those things that we forget to notice each day.

Here’s a little history about me. I graduated from The Savannah College of Art and Design with a Bachelors of Fine Art in Photography. (Psst…by the way, according to Forbes, that’s one of those now worthless degrees. Live and learn!) Anyhow, after finishing my degree, I landed right smack in the middle of the commercial and business side of this industry and didn’t look back. I managed a traditional lab back when film still ruled. I became a production manager at a digital imaging studio when digital started to blossom in the mid-90s. I also worked a management level position at a publishing company, all before leaving Atlanta in 2002.

In Colorado Springs, I had the privilege to work for one of my best friends, a local commercial photographer, for 8 ½ years. I ran his studio and focused a lot of my attention on the post-production aspects of the business. I taught myself Photoshop and overall, immersed myself in that business.
